During these cold winter nights, we love looking at destination weddings on sunnier shores. Welcome to our first ‘wanderful wedding’ feature with Irish couple, John and Auveen, on New Zealand’s Waiheke Island in the Hauraki Gulf of Auckland.

John and Auveen were living in Auckland when they got engaged after a romantic meal on Waiheke. Deciding to get married on the island was an easy decision for the couple, who loved its relaxed atmosphere, sandy beaches and beautiful scenery.
Auveen’s dress was made by Auckland bridal designer, Kate Dowman and John’s suit came from Frank Casey Suit Hire.
Auveen arrived at the ceremony in a 1961 Hillman which was lovingly restored by the owner to original condition.
45 of their friends and family, including their 11 month old son, joined John and Auveen for an intimate outdoor ceremony at Whakanewha Regional Park.
This was followed by a reception at Stonyridge Vineyard, a stunning venue which the couple had visited several times before their engagement.
Guests were treated to a tour through the olive grove, vineyard and cellar before sampling some of Stonyridge’s sumptuous wines. The wedding breakfast was a selection of anti-pasti and New Zealand Lamb Rack or Baked South Island Salmon.
The cake was made up of mini pavlovas topped with fresh fruit, a perfect ending to a delicious meal.

Music was provided by The Sally Connection Acoustic Duo and the guests also enjoyed a live performance from the groom on his guitar later.
Thank you so much to John and Auveen for being our first Wanderlust Weddings couple!
